A new cancel group very similar to the one shown under 8) but now with a 2 figure year was introduced in 1894 both in domestic and foreign post offices and was used until substituted by the Comb Type handstamp in 1905. Many varieties have been found and because of the numerous items I want to present I divide this section into domestic, Korean, Chinese and Seapost cancels.

11Chefoo:  15 Sen new Koban on piece CHEFOO I.J.P.O Medium Single Circle in black: 6 Aug 97 Note the difference from above: only one "e" in Chefoo!

 

11Chefoo2:  Cover with 10 Sen new Koban CHEFOO I.J.P.O Medium Single Circle  in violet: 14 APR 98  Japan transit and UK arrival mark on the back of the cover. The sender had great trust in the postal system. He assumed that English postal clerks read Japanese. Who was so kind and provided the translation on the stub glued on?

At least I have never heard of it before making this find.

 

11Swatow:  4 Sen new Koban SWATOW I.J.P.O. Medium Single Circle: 21 MAR ?? This cancellation has a  5 point star of normal size. Bishop only listed this marking with asterisks. It is a shame that the year is unclear.

 

11Tientsin:  Foreign Mail Reply Postcard with the reply part attached, FC13, from Tientsin via Shanghai and Hong Kong to Belgium. A 3 Sen and a 20 Sen stamp with China overprints were added unnecessarily. TIENTSIN I.J.P.A.
